OVERVIEW: DISNEY'South Fine art OF ANIMATION RESORT

Disney's Art of Animation Resort opened in 2012, with two major room types–

• Four-person Little Mermaid standard rooms sized similarly to standard rooms in other value resorts, and
• Big, six-person Family unit Suites

Since so, among my 160+ stays in Disney World-owned rooms, we've stayed at Art of Animation nine times–seven times in the family suites, and two fourth dimension in the Fiddling Mermaid rooms.

These two room types share all resort services.

Otherwise they are profoundly unlike, and families reserving one while expecting the other are in for a shock!

That said, each Art of Animation room blazon–with some of import qualifiers–comes in at the elevation of its respective class:

Piddling Mermaid standard rooms are the best place to stay for families seeking a standard value resort room.

(Families with mobility bug might desire a preferred room at Pop Century instead, and families looking for queen beds a refurbed room at Pop Century, All-Star Movies, or All-Star Music. Those needing to spend the everyman corporeality possible should target All-Star Movies.)

The Family unit Suites at Disney'south Art of Animation Resort beat out the alternative value resort Family Suites at All-Star Music on most dimensions equally the best suites for first-timers.

(There are a few differences at All-Star Music that brand the family suites there ameliorate for some families. STANDARD ROOMS AT ART OF Blitheness

You likely will never stay in a hotel with smaller rooms than the standard rooms you'll discover at Disney's value resorts.

Encounter the floor programme of a standard Little Mermaid room at Fine art of Animation.

I could not imagine staying in one of these rooms if I had to add together a crib as well (the room sleeps four in two full-size beds, plus one more than, younger than 3, in a crib).

However, if your family volition fit, standard rooms in Disney's Art of Animation Resort have much more child appeal than the moderate resorts, the adjacent higher toll course.

(Moderates on average are merely a trivial more than expensive than Little Mermaid rooms, and are particularly comparably priced in the summer and over holidays. But moderates have much bigger standard rooms, queen beds–other than a few exceptions–and nicer landscaping. Come across this for much more than on resort distinctions past price form–value, moderate, palatial, etc.)

Standard rooms at Art of Animation all have a Piffling Mermaid theme. There are no Standard rooms in the Cars, Nemo, or Panthera leo King areas, and no family suites in the Trivial Mermaid area.

The main trouble with the Little Mermaid standard rooms at Art of Animation (besides their toll) is their relative distance from the key resort services–the bus stop, Disney Skyliner gondola station, food court, check-in desks, and principal pool.

Art of Animation was built on a site planned for an expansion of Pop Century. As function of that expansion the foundations, the central service building, and two of the ten hotel buildings were built a decade ago.

The two already-congenital buildings, along with a third planned for the aforementioned themed area, were converted into the standard room surface area of Art of Animation.

The other seven buildings–to become Family Suites–are on the same footprint, but greatly different.

By chance, the ii already-built buildings also happened to be part of the grouping that is furthest away from the principal central services.

Meet the resort map to a higher place.  The Piffling Mermaid Rooms are in the orangish circle on the left.  None of these buildings is either wildly distant nor specially convenient, but families with mobility issues (or needing queen beds) should consider a preferred room at Pop Century or All-Star Movies.

Among the Petty Mermaid buildings, Building 7 is the all-time selection (ane of the two closer buildings, and the but one of these two with rooms with a lake view), and building 8 the worst (the farthest).

FAMILY SUITES AT ART OF ANIMATION

The Family Suites at Art of Animation combine innovative and flexible floor plans with deep theming based on the Disney movies Cars, the Lion King, and Finding Nemo that makes them uniquely bonny for larger families.

(These rooms are undergoing a minor refurb that is replacing the carpets with wood-laminate floors. I'll have updated images after.)

These rooms slumber vi in a space more than than twice as big as the 4-person standard Little Mermaid rooms.

There are three sleeping spots–2 in the queen in the main sleeping room, two on a fold-out couch in the living space, and 2 on a Murphy bed that folds downwardly where the dining table shows on the flooring programme.

The number of beds (3 vs 4) and the dining table are the main furnishings differences between Fine art of Animation Family Suites and those at All-Star Music, although a refurb in All-Star Music appears to be shifting it to 3 beds.

Folding the bed down to make the dining tabular array disappear is also just fun.

These rooms are as well much more deeply themed than those at Music–to an extent that may exist garish to some families! The new simpler floors that are emerging in these rooms will help tone them down a fleck.

All-Star Music Family Suites also take some other positives–a bigger living room and kitchen, four sleeping spots rather than iii, and a much lower cost.

But for most families, Fine art of Blitheness Family Suites will exist the better choice.  They have much more kid entreatment, and more convenience, than those at Music.

Choices every bit to which group of buildings to book will, in many families, simply exist guided past which of Cars, the Lion King, and Finding Nemo is their favorite motion-picture show. (The Nemo rooms are a little more expensive.)

All of the value resorts–Disney'due south Fine art of Animation resort, Disney'southward All-Star Sports, All-Star Music, and All-Star Movies, and its Pop Century resort–accept terrific kid appeal.

This appeal comes from the approach to theming they all share: bright and vibrant exteriors, framing much larger than life objects of interest to kids.

These objects reinforce that these resorts were designed for the sake of kids…and not necessarily for adults!

Art of Blitheness takes this theming to a new level of immersiveness.  Its four areas each accept 2 or three buildings themed effectually a movie with great kid appeal–Cars, Little Mermaid, the Panthera leo King, and Finding Nemo.

The rooms are more than deeply themed to their respective movies than the rooms in whatever other value resort are themed to their topics.

Even more amazing is the theming outside the rooms.

The environments around the Art of Animation buildings are deeply themed to recall the settings of these movies.

Compared to the All-Stars, it is more central. Although Disney officially classifies it, like the All-Stars, as an "ESPN Wide World of Sports" Area Resort," it is in fact quite centrally located.

• It is just south of Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, nestled in the expanse betwixt Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios.
• Information technology is closer to Epcot, Disney'south Hollywood Studios, and the Magic Kingdom than the All-Stars are.

Second, Fine art of Animation is one of only ii resorts at Walt Disney World that both has only 1 bus terminate and as well does not share buses with any other resort. (Popular Century is the other.)

Each of the All-Star resorts has only ane bus stop, just they often share their buses with one or both of the other All-Stars.

Moreover,  Art of Blitheness is now linked by the new Disney World Skyliner gondola arrangement to Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Information technology shares a Skyliner station with Pop Century, on the bridge connecting the 2 resorts over Hourglass Lake. From this station, you ride to the main hub, at Caribbean Beach, and re-board there for either the Epcot or Hollywood Studios lines.

Pop Century is a niggling easier to become effectually for than Art of Animation is for those in standard rooms.  The standard rooms at Art of Animation are more distant from the hotel's central services than lxx% of Pop'south are.

Compared to the other value resorts, Art of Animations' strengths are its unmatched kid appeal from its bully theming, transportation convenience at the highest level of the values, its vast number of really well-designed Family Suites, and the best food courtroom on any Disney World resort hotel property.

The only weaknesses it has compared to other values are its high prices, and the fact that its 4 person standard rooms (all in its Little Mermaid section) are less convenient to the hotel'south key services than nearly of those at any other value, and that all of its standard rooms still accept total beds and no coffeemaker.  Refurbed Popular Century, All-Star Movies, and All-Star Music rooms take queen beds and coffeemakers.
